QLD Match Racing Championships

The Mooloolaba Yacht Club will be organizing the Queensland Match Racing Championship from the 16th to the 18th September 2016. The best part about this event is that there will be nine talented teams on show at this year’s event. These new teams represent the clubs along the east coast of Australia.

The new teams are: Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania, Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron, Cruising Yacht club of Australia and Sandringham Yacht Club. They will be joining the likes of emerging teams like the Sunshine Coast Sailing team and Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron to take part in the three days Elliott 6s regatta event, with th first prize a week’s Bareboat Charter in Trogir, in Croatia.

Five of the above teams are relatively new to the sailing world and are unranked and the other four teams are just getting a foothold in the sailing arena and are increasing their ranking by taking part in the local competitions. The Sandringham Yacht Club skippers Phillipa Solly and Rhett Gowans are coached by James Sly, who has a lot of exposure to dinghy racing. The coach is happy with his team’s progress and they have been training every weekend from May. Continue reading QLD Match Racing Championships
